The annual indexation raised the fee on 5,381 items from 1 July 2026. The update also added 8 items, removed 2, and set 2 new limits on how often an item can be claimed.
These fee rises are the bulk of this update. Each 1 July, Medicare adjusts its schedule fees, and this year almost all of them went up. Here’s how that looks for three common GP consults:

Last year, the fees on items 5200, 5203, 5207, 5208 and 5209 were raised by more than they should have been. This update puts them right, so these five fees go down rather than up.

Two biopsy items, for bone and soft-tissue tumours, now have a limit. The same provider can’t claim either item for a patient more than twice in a 12-month period.

32219: colonoscopy after a positive faecal occult blood test.

73329: cholangiocarcinoma gene-panel test.
73400: HLA test for carbamazepine hypersensitivity risk.
61470: thallium-201 myocardial perfusion study.
61477: gallium study.
Both are nuclear-medicine imaging items.

The annual indexation raised the fee on 5,381 items. The update also added 8 items, removed 2, reworded 80 item descriptions, updated 50 derived fees and 7 benefit types, and set 2 new claim limits. The schedule now holds 6,045 items.
